The bees have been buzzin’! The energy this week has been exciting and enervating, like those early days when framing the house, with nail guns hammering, circular saws a-whirring, air compressors burping, and norteño music filling the air. We had a fair bit of activity last week, but this week it is as though someoneContinue reading “On the Verge”

When I was a boy
When I was young, in those final years leading up to teenhood, living in a small village on the coastal desert of Northern Peru, my mother arranged that I become an altar boy. I did not object to this assignment, except possibly a few times when I was unable to accept an invitation to spendContinue reading “When I was a boy”
The End of the Pole
The days have been rainy and misty and mizzely of late. There have been a few short heavy rainfalls interrupted by hours of dripping rain, spattered now and then with a gust of wind. Too wet to get yard work done and too drizzly for tractor work. But not enough to fill my 30,000 gallonContinue reading “The End of the Pole”
Homebody
I think I compared a house to a home in an earlier post. I could ask Claudia to check my previous sketches and she would probably find every mention of “house” and “home”. If I were to review every post, for which I have neither the time nor the inclination, I would probably skim overContinue reading “Homebody”
Traveling through Space
Welcome home Artemis explorers! I got so involved and excited watching the return of the Orion Integrity crew that I an only now sharing my own successful venture: the rainwater collection tank has touched down! The rainwater collection system is not rocket science. But it was not without its challenges. For example, getting black PVCContinue reading “Traveling through Space”
I, Claudius
As you are aware, AI is creeping into our lives through every imaginable nook and cranny. I have allowed Claude access to my WordPress blog site. Fear not! I will create and write and edit my own posts. However, I did ask Claudio, also responding to Claudia depending on my disposition, for a couple ofContinue reading “I, Claudius”
Wranch Water
One of the sub-projects I am undertaking while building the wranch house is the installation of a rainwater recovery system. This consists of collecting the rainwater which falls on the roof into a conventional gutter, directing it down a slightly unconventional downspout and into an underground conveyance line to a thirty thousand gallon holding tank.Continue reading “Wranch Water”
Happy Anniversary to Paula and Me
This post is long overdue, but I have an excuse. I took my grandkids to Disneyland, went on a cruise in the Sea of Cortez and spent 4 days with ChaCha and Jim in Pescadero and Todos Santos. Encinitas is always a good place to refresh the body and the mind and the soul. PaulaContinue reading “Happy Anniversary to Paula and Me”
Happy Valentines Day
Here is a poem inspired by Sappho, the lyric poet from Ancient Greece. Very little of her work survives. The piece below was constructed by a Canadian poet, Bliss Carman, who took verses from extant fragments and created what he imagined Sappho might write today. This verse is best served spoken, to your lover, today.Continue reading “Happy Valentines Day”
The Master
It has been a while since my last post, but the project is proceeding. However, it is difficult to demonstrate. Let me explain: the external presentation of our bodies is pretty much just skin and hair. But beneath this externality is a bunch of stuff. Organs like the heart and lungs and pancreas and spleen,Continue reading “The Master”
